Playing the game

What is a Queen of Hearts raffle?

A progressive raffle. Players buy tickets and put each one on a numbered card on a board of 54 face-down cards. Each drawing, one ticket is drawn and its card is turned over. If it’s the Queen of Hearts, that player wins the jackpot. If not, they win a smaller weekly prize and the jackpot keeps growing.

How do I play Queen of Hearts online?

Open the raffle page your organization shared, check the board to see which cards are still face down, pick a ticket bundle, select your card numbers and check out with a card. Your ticket numbers and card selections come to you by email.

Where do I find my organization’s Queen of Hearts page?

Every raffle has its own page. Use the link your organization shared, or look for it on their website or Facebook page. If you can’t find it, ask them directly.

Can I put tickets on more than one card?

Yes. You can put several ticket numbers on the same card, or spread them across as many face-down cards as you like.

Can more than one person pick the same card?

Yes. Any number of players can put tickets on the same card number. Only the drawn ticket’s card gets turned over.

What are my odds of winning the jackpot?

Two things have to happen. Your ticket has to be drawn, and your chance of that is your tickets divided by all the tickets in that drawing. Then your card has to be the Queen, which is 1 in however many cards are still face down. Fewer cards left means better odds on that second part.

Do I have to be there to win?

That depends on the organization’s rules. Online games usually don’t require it, since players can be anywhere. Check the rules posted on the raffle page.

How will I know if I won?

The result of every drawing posts to the raffle page right away, including the card that was revealed. The organization contacts winners the way its rules describe.

Rules and the jackpot

What happens if the Queen isn’t drawn?

The revealed card stays face up and comes out of play, the ticket holder wins the weekly prize, and the jackpot rolls over to the next drawing.

What if nobody picked the Queen of Hearts?

It doesn’t matter. The drawing picks a ticket first and then reveals that ticket’s card. A card nobody selected can’t come up.

How long does a Queen of Hearts raffle last?

Until the Queen is found. That can be the first week or more than a year, especially if the jokers reset the board.

What are the jokers for?

The organization’s rules decide. Some treat a joker like any other card, some pay a bonus, and some reset the board so every card goes back face down while the jackpot keeps growing.

How is the jackpot split?

That’s set by the organization’s rules and often by state law. A common setup sends part of each drawing’s sales to the weekly winner, part to the jackpot and the rest to the organization. Some games use fixed prizes by card instead.

What is a draw-down?

A planned final drawing. The organization announces a date, then keeps drawing tickets until the Queen of Hearts is revealed. It’s the usual way to end a game when the jackpot reaches a permit’s prize cap.

Are tickets good for more than one drawing?

Usually not. Most games sell a new round of tickets for each drawing, and only that round’s tickets go in. The organization’s rules spell out how it works.
